Did you ever get a newspaper report? The Falkirk Herald of 9/1/1886 says Francis was found dead on the North Side of the river. It was supposed he had fallen over the bridge or had been crossing a fence, thinking he was going into a field, when he fell into the river and drowned. He had been seen in the village at 9pm on New Year's day, drunk, then nothing until he was found on the Tuesday (5th ?).
