Avonhorn, Mary Medwed was my grandmother and her brother was William Medwed from Edmonton.  They were from the Ukraine.  How else will I be able to go about seeing if we are indeed related.  My grandmother married a George Kotchan in Fort William in 1913.  Let me know.  Thanks

grammatj8  on September 7th, 2007 you posted wondering about obits for Donna and William Medwed in Edmonton. Almost nine years have passed but if you are still looking for them, I have these obits. They were my grandparents on my mother's side.

That would be awesome for the obits.  I was wondering, do you know where in the Ukraine your relatives came from. Thanks for any help

All I know is Bukovina. Very likely the part that is in the current Ukraine. I have transcribed the obits to a pdf document. The originals are very hard to read. I have attached the pdf below. I have also enclosed a 1916 Canada Census listing for the family. It lists the children with the exception of my mother Marie also known as Mary. I think the son listed as Michal on the 1916 census was an error. It should have been Marie and female. I also attached the 1921 Canadian Census record.

Now of course I have to ask the question, are you related to any of these people and me?

If everything I have goes together, my Grandmother and your grandfather were brothers and sisters.  I didn't get the 1916 census, I will look it up. But thanks, I have found that my grandfather, Kotchan, is the last name and my grandmother Mary Medwed, they came to Canada in and around 1914 at least that is the time I have figured.  I have no information once they got off the boat.  I don't know where they came from.  Hind sight is great, I wish I had asked questions when they were alive.  I do know they went to Fort William, Ontario until 1928 then they moved to Simcoe, Ontario. I didn't know at that time if either my grandfather or grandmother had sibilings of any kind.  Any info you have would be appreciated.  I was told once that my grandfather came from Davidivsee, Bokavina.  Which fits into the puzzle.  However, Davidivsee does not exist today.

Looking at the obit for Donna, My Mom was in contact with Stella Harmer for a  long time until such time, as Mom said, she must have been sick, because her letters weren't the same anymore.

Stella Harmer was my aunt so we are related. I am going to send you the 1916 Census again. I will also post Stella's obit.

Thanks for the info, it is appreciated. I was in contact with Stella son, Guy, but I couldn't get the email to work that he mailed me, and when I sent a letter he never responded again.
