Harold Charles Parfitt- look up help

Hmmmmm theres no Harold (Charles) P marriages showing up in the right sort of area during 1901 - 1911 in FreeBMD - which is pretty complete in that period, so its either a mistran, or we need to search the full indices in case it hasnt yet been transcribed by FreeBMD.


I'll finish off that 1901 census entry for Parfitt in the meantime ...


Dont take that 1901 Coombs Census as gospel just yet !

Iris and Rose - older than Phyliss ?

I've looked back on the GRO full Indices from 4Q1909 to 1Q1906 and cant see a Harold Charles marrying  ..... we may have to assume that Phyllis pre-dated a marriage ..... I havent looked beyond 1911 (on FreeBMD)


As late as 1919, a Harold C. Parfitt marries in Newport - to an Alice Morris

Further  family info- the Coombes family were supposed to be quite wealthy but apparently Beatrice ran away from home. Some family problems rumoured but not sure what exactly. Could explain young marriage. Also her family disproved of her marrying a welshman!   
Also found entry  in directory of coat armour but not yet viewed.
There is  also 1 entry in The Bristol Times and Mirror in 1897 for  Beatrice and 5 entries for Joseph Coombs in same year!!! May have to pay subscription!!!!

Interesting - usually theres an element of truth in these stories  .... so probably just as well to leave my Coombes 1901 find on hold for now.

This Birth Index entry does confirm the lass I found in Wales with a PoB of Cheltenham - and she is unique in the registers with the middle name, which makes me wonder if that 1904 marriage could be her after all - quite young, but over 16 ... ?

The challenge is to find when and where HCP and BVC married, so we can check the Father's names on a Marriage Cert against the 1901 Census finds (or earlier !)

I wondered if either of them married using 2nd Christian name - but I cant see it if so ....

When I was looking for Iris and Rose I found an Iris Beatrice Parfitt birth 1905 I think it was in the right area - but thats before Maiden names are shown in the Index ....

Hopefully somebody else will have a look and uncover something I've missed....

I will check with my mum (who's on holiday at the moment), for any more details on Iris and Rose.

I do think its strange we can't find their marriage details.

Can you tell me what sites are worth subscribing to, as several do BMD/census etc, but which are the best?

I do all my work on here using an annual subscription to www.Ancestry.co.uk - in close conjunction with http://freebmd.rootsweb.com  &  www.familysearch.org

I do use other sites too, typically more specialised for Parish Registers etc - you can get a lot of these from the Forums for individual Counties under the 'Resources' sub-Forums.

as is the National Archives site -- http://www.thenationalarchives.gov.uk

The marriage is certainly a mystery - if money isnt an issue, I'd get BVC's Birth Cert and that 1904 Marriage Cert to see what they reveal.

My own Grandparents apparently never married, altho their kids Birth Certs looked totally pukka.

Did Harold enlist for WW1 - if there are any records available, it might help name next of kin etc which may substitute for a Marriage Cert in terms of identifying Father etc ?
