Am i safe in assuming that William died between 1836 and 1841. That was the year of his son.s birth and the Census.
Was it common practice in the Census to use the wifes maiden name?
Hope you had a nice Christmas?

Hi Frank

Joe's offline but it does look as if William died before 1841  :(

It was fairly common for Scottish women to be called by their maiden name, especially on the 1841 census.

Hi Joe et all : A wee query for you Margaret Hendersons parents were  Donald Henderson b: in Ruther Watten and Margaret Bain They were married in 1800
However as well as having Margaret  they had 2 other daughters
Helen b: 13 APR 1805 in Ruther, Watten d: 14 AUG 1876 in Louisburgh, Wick who was my direct line
Anne b: 18 JUN 1807 in Ruther, Watten d: 24 JUN 1866 in Castletown   a spinster and two sons
Donald 16 JUN 1800 in Ruther, Watten and
Alexander 27 FEB 1797 in Ruther, Watten both of whom Ive drawn a blank with  Have you any idea what happened to the sons???
