1891 Census help Morriston Landore Swansea
« on: Tuesday 21 December 04 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Looking for 1891 Census information for my G-Grandmother Mary Catherine Hawes.
& any Hawes in Morriston / Landore Swansea in 1871 also.

Mary Catherine Hawes was born September 6, 1889 in 352, Plasmarl Landore Swansea South Wales to parents John Hawes and Ann Evans (She may have had a brother also named John?) Mary Catherine Hawes does not seem to be on the 1901 census, searched the U.K, and there are no matches for a Mary Catherine Hawes born in Swansea / Clase / Morriston, therefore I am hoping this part of Swansea in 1891 has been enumerated.

There is a Mary Catherine Hawes (too old to be my G-Grandmother) who was 33yrs in the 1901 census, she was born in Swansea and lived in Swansea in 1901 (Dressmaker), she is not mine & although all the Hawes I have found in the Morriston region link to mine this one doesn’t seem to tie in anywhere.

My G-Grandmother remained in Swansea throughout her life even after her marriage to Richard Thomas Park. She was buried in October 1946, Morriston Cemetery Swansea
Funeral: October 23, 1946,

I have all the 1841/51 & 61 Census information on the Hawes of Morriston Swansea,
but I would also be interested in any Hawes census entries in 1871 & 1891 I have my Hawes line back to 1796 majority of the male Hawes were named John, there were quite a few Samuels and Williams also.

Merry Christmas to all! ;)

Hi Jen

There is this family in 1891 as HEWIS (I have checked original):

2 Hollands Buildings, Mold, Flintshire

John HEWIS 33 smelter b.Swansea
Ann wife 28 b.Swansea
Annie dau 6 b.Swansea
Prudence dau 4 b.Swansea
Elizabeth J dau 2 b.Swansea
Mary C dau 1 b.Swansea
Margaret dau 15 days b.Pontolliddyn? Flint

RG12/4610 folio 61

In the 1901 census online - there is a Prudence HAWES age 14.

There seems to be no Prudence HAWES in the 1891 census index nor any Prudence HEWIS in the 1901 census index.

http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Are they one and the same and HEWIS in 1891?

Good luck

Hi, thanks for this. The names do fit but I have never come across the name spelt like that but that is not to say that could not be them, as you never know! This information is definately worth keeping for future reference.

Thank you very much for thinking of me
Merry Christmas!
Jen  ;)
