Maulden Look up - SHARP
« on: Sunday 30 September 07 18:33 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the parent of Francis Sharp b abt 1812 in Maulden. I'm having no luck so far, he seems to have got lost in the change over of parish registers in 1812 but maybe someone can find something for me.

I know he married Elizabeth Roberts in Clophill on 29 August 1831 & have all census details & children, it's his parentage I'm stuck on. I'd love to find out more as his great-grandson is still alive and knows nothing of his family.

Thanks in anticipation

Welcome to Rootschat!

Someone was enquiring about Francis Sharp earlier this year on another board - http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/bedford/2007-06/1181969591

I don't think the change in the parish registers has anything to do with a missing entry - more likely non-conformity

Try contacting Peter Booth in Australia - email address on the other board - to see if he's made any progress

Thanks for replying - it was me on the other board as well, just trying to exhaust all possibilities really. If the family were non-conformist, are there the equivilent of parish records for them as well?
Peter so far hasn't turned him up ...

I would go for suviving Wills if I were you - ask Beds Archives if there are any Wills for SHARP/E in the Maulden area...they were C of E by the 20th C [milkmen?] but may be non-con before that as Davis says.  As a child our milkman was a Sharp and I knew they were a Maulden family.

Quite a well known family - have you looked in www.rootsweb.com
[family section] to see who else has F.H. on this family?

And, as always, please see the Roll of Honour for Maulden online where there is a SHARP son who gave his life in WW1.

Please also try the Beds Archives search site online - it does not include many Wills so you will need to email for that information.

Thanks Cathy, that is all really useful to me as I've not tried those lines of enquiry before.

When I wrote last I should have included the Trade Directories online.  Not very good for early 19th C but later on they might help ...you need to google in ''Historical Directories''
