Suzanne Croissant
« on: Wednesday 03 October 07 11:35 BST (UK) »
I am trying to discover the history of Suzanne Croissant who married William Peskett in Odiham in 1859. I believe she may have been a governess to a family in Odiham  at the time of her marriage . It would be interesting to know if she had any Hugenot connections, but any information about her or her family would be very much appreciated.

Hi there Mimmi

What more do you know about Suzanne?  Do you have her on any census return giving a birthdate/birthplace?  Do you have her marriage certificate to William - and if so does it give her father's name and occupation?

I see from her marriage registration that she had a middle name of Catherine.  I wonder whether she might be the Catherine Croissant, born France, who was a 19-yr-old house servant in Hove in 1851:  HO107/1647 folio 91 p66?

Hi Anna,
I don't have a copy of her marriage certificate, but I believe her father's name was Jean and he was a watch and clockmaker. It is quite possible that she was born in France but unfortunately I don't have her birth date.

It looks as though Badevel is in the Departement du Doubs, so it's probably "D. du Doubs" which appears on the 1861 census.
