Hi Deb,

Found the following on IGI
John 25/12/23, Thomas 26/03/26, Isaac 26/12/32, Ann 23/07/33, Mary 17/09/35, Henry 05/08/37, Samual 19/08/39, Sarah Catherine 12/08/41 & Richard 29/09/45

As you said Barkla seems to be the recognised surname (although it appears local to Cornwall in this period).

Deb,

You were right, the father is Nicholas who was a miner. Address appears to be Luay - St. Agnes.

I am a descendant of Nicholas Stevens (Stephens) and Ann Barkla (Barkle). They are my 3rd great grandparents
Their daughter Mary Anne Stevens (1858-1931) married Francis Young (1856-1895) in October 1876.
The family probably moved north to the Lothians to work in the coal mines. Frances was born in Gladsmuir East Lothian.

Perhaps Nicholas was a mining engineer and his skills were sought after abroad?

Hi
Isabella Young (1882), daughter of Francis and Mary Anne, was my great granny. She was married to William John Grant (1882)
One of their sons John Young Grant (1914) was my granddad. My mum was Mary Grant (1940).
And I'm a Kennedy.  Small world. We must be related in some way.

I've been reading about Nicholas Stevens and for some reason I had his death as 1899 so I'm intrigued to find out that he spent time in the US. I've not finished the "chat" yet so I'll return to it tomorrow.
Great to hear from you
Anne

Not my morning so far.
