McGraw - McGowan
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 08:00 BST (UK) »
I would like any information on Launcelot McGraw born late 1700s and Mary McGowan born 18th May 1801 in Clackmannan. I would like to know when and where they married and names of any children and census information if possible.
I know of 1 child male Francis McGraw born in Glasgow.
Any information appreciated.

Unfortunately, I cannot trace on any of the census!

Since McGraw and McGowan are Irish names I would suspect the marriage and any baptisms would have been in a Catholic church and these records are not online.

Hi Joe
I only know that Francis was born in Glasgow I don't have any other details about his birth place, he later lived at 195 High Street Glasgow with his wife and family.

Hi Annette
I suspected that the family originated in Ireland and that they were more than likely Catholics.

Thank you for your help

I'm not sure if this has any relevance, but I'll offer it just in case it helps:

My Grandfather was Francis Paul McGraw, b. 4 June 1909, d. 6 March 1994 in Glasgow. He was a Coppersmith. His father was Hugh McGraw; Mother Caroline McGraw, formerly Shades m.s. Edson.
They weren't R.C. though. All Protestants.

Let me know if you need any more info -

Hi
there is a tree on Ancestry with a picture of Francis McGraw they have him born in Ireland not Glasgow ...On further checking going by the address you supplied this looks like him
Francis McGrah b abt 1811 Ireland age 60 occupation labourer ( unemployed )
Helen McGrah age 50 born Ireland tree has her maiden name as Reilly
Ann McGrah age 20 born abt 1852 Glasgow there are other people in the census recorded as lodgers ....The surname McGraw can also be known as McGrath
Rosie
Address 195,High Street Glasgow

A possible in the 1851 census lodging with a Patrick McCarron and family at 36, Old Wynd Glasgow St Enoch
Francis McGrah b 1811 Ireland occupation field labourer
Ellen McGrah b 1813 Ireland
Bernard 1839.Mary 1837,John 1844, Terence 1846 all born Ireland
So this family will not be in the 1841 census ....If Francis was born about 1811 the mother's birth year must be wrong ..Do these names mean anything to you
