Lost great great grandmother, Census 1871
« on: Tuesday 16 October 07 18:52 BST (UK) »
I am keen to find my great great grandmother, Mary Pender, in the 1871 census.
I have Mary in the 1861 census with her parents and siblings, living Old Monkland, Castle. Her father, John, was a boatman.
Where do  I find Mary in 1871?

Gail
McBride/Steele/McMaster/Tweed -County Antrim
Morrison-Lanarkshire/Edinburgh/Doune/Bo'ness
Coventry- Coatbridge/old monkland/ Kilmacolm/Port Glasgow/Ireland
Wylie- County Armagh/ Old Monkland.
Pender- Old Monkland.
Stirling- Old Monkland.

What age do you expect her to be in 1871? Where was she born? Was she of age to have married between 1861 and 1871? If so, what was her married surname?

Hi Gail and ADP,

Found Mary in 1861 with her family. She was born 1856 in Old Monkland, so she should be about 15 in 1871. I've got the family in 1871 too, but no Mary. Perhaps living with grandparents and possibly listed under their surname by mistake?

There's a 15 year old Mary Pender in Cadder (very close to Old Monkland). Or as Ancestry has her - Mary Ponder, born Old Monkland.

Hi Crookedtail.

Nice to chat to a another newbie.Hope you enjoy our site.

Thanks for joining in the hunt. Mary married WILLIAM COVENTRY on 3rd March 1876, at West Maryston.

Greatful for any suggestions, although the Mary Ponder mis-spelling mentioned earlier, seems to be the closest.

Thanks again.

Gail :)
