Realise this is an old thread and some participants haven't been on here for a while but let's see.
I have Moses Nice being buried in King's Lynn in Feb 1813 aged 85 giving estimated year of birth of 1727 or 28. Described as late of Cambridge, former butler at St John's College.
Right, now for the ulterior motive to this post
I'm trying to connect the Dunthornes and the Lee family.
Richard Dunthorne (1711-75), witness to Moses' marriage, was an astronomer. He has a wikipedia entry and his own crater on the Moon.
He married Elizabeth Mansfield (1714-89) in 1742 at Cambridge St Clements or Pembroke Hall according to the licence. Bondsman was William Lee, Bricklayer
In Elizabeth Dunthorne's will (PCC 1789), Elizabeth Nice (nee Lee), Moses' wife, was described as a niece, as was Frances Leach (nee Lee), wife of Barnett. Moses Nice and Barnett Leach were the executors.
Elizabeth and Frances were daughters of William Lee and Frances Shaw (widow, nee
). William & Frances married at Cambridge St Benedict's in 1735. I've only seen the BT version which had no witness info.
Now, Elizabeth Mansfield had a sister Frances b1709. What would fit in nicely would be a marriage of Frances Mansfield to a Mr Shaw who then dies in the right time-frame.
Unfortunately, I haven't found one. Anyone else?
