What happened to the DOWNER family of Salisbury?
« on: Monday 29 October 07 11:07 GMT (UK) »
I keep hitting brick walls in my search for family information on the Downer family from Salisbury. I would love some more information on these people:

Edith M. Downer b.1875
Emily F. Downer b.1877
Agnes Beatrice Downer b.1879 - married Arthur Light in 1900
Maurice (or Morris) Edwin Downer b.1886

These were my grandmother's (Nellie's) siblings. Their parents' names were Edwin and Sarah Downer. I'd love to know who they married (hard to trace them without their married names) and what children they had. Does anyone here have access to that kind of information? Or maybe just point me in a direction where I might find info myself. I have some lovely old photos of some of these people but I can't positively identify them. If I can get in touch with some living relatives, they may be able to help. Many thanks for any help offered.

You can find quite a lot post-1901 these days on http://freeBMD.rootsweb.com

The Maurice Edwin Downer from the 1901 census seems to have been registered at birth as Edwin Maurice Downer: Sep 1885 Alderbury, Wilts 5a 193

He seems to have married Jun 1906 Wilton, Wilts - possibly to Mabel Daisy Head: 5a 459

Full name for Emily seems to be Emily Fanny Downer, birth reg Sep 1876 Fordingbridge 2b 630

It occurs to me that there are 2 researchers from this tree on www.GenesReunited.com . If you search for Ernest Downer born 1908 in Salisbury and Wilton respectively you should find them.

Thanks Ytene - I'm on GenesReunited and have sent off a message to one of those people. I'm probably the other one ...  :)
