Occupation Flintsman?
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 15:28 GMT (UK) »
I have received a copy of marriage cert  dated 1845 which gives Groom's father's occupation as "Flintsman", at this time the father John Davis was living in Cynwyl Elfed, probably born in LLechryd around 1791.   There is a John Davis indicated on 1851 census as East India Company pensioner,  so I am hoping to find some link to connect "Flintsman" with this.   Any suggestions or help gratefully received, I've exhausted all other lines of enquiry!  Do they quarry flint anywhere in Cardigan/Carmarthen?   It doesn't seem to have any connection to the Army, so I'm really struggling.

Thanks
Chris

After help from a very nice lady at Carmarthen Registry Office, i've had the welcome news that my John Davis is in fact not a Flintsman, but a Huntsman!!
Because this was a written copy, not a copy of the original, a mistake had been made.   Great news, I can concentrate on this new info, instead of trawling the internet looking for information! :)
