Hi Bertram

I think if you are hoping for details of where they came from in France you could be disappointed. Unless it was on the mariage certificate or in the census there are no records which could help.

Hi Stewart, I know the village in Normandy where the Voivenels came from.In the 1891 census I have found Felix and Jeanne Marie under the name of Voivanef.Staying with them at the time was a sister of Jeanne Marie from Brittany but I am not sure of her surname. Could you check Please.

Hope that helps.

Hi Stewart, Thanks for Feleman Larmend, I know their father was a shoe maker named Francoise I will try and locate them in Brittany.
Please let me know if you require any help in UK.

Nobody needed passports to enter the UK until 1858.  People entered and left the country as they pleased.  Although Jersey is not part of the UK, because of our close links, access to the island was probably just as easy.  Therefore I feel it's highly unlikely that any records were kept.

It was only when an Italian entered France through Britain and tried to assassinate Napoleon III that France insisted Britons must carry passports.

I'm sure the system took a while to set up.  Ask The Jersey Heritage Trust - see www.jerseyheritagetrust.org.

Which surname are you seeking?  As a member of the Channel Islands FHS, I have a list of members' interests.

Hi - I have a similar problem.......

I have a Jean Eustache married to Honorine Duchemin (possible around 1851/1852 (as their eldest child Marie was born around 1852 in Portbail)

They are both in CI Census 1861, 1871 etc....

Jean was apparently from Portbail................born around 1823 - what do you think would have made them move? Jean was a Farmer by trade..

Phil
thanks
