BRADSHAW of Odell
« on: Monday 05 November 07 22:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello,   Can someone prove a link between ....

John Bradshaw who married Mary Headland in 1853 at Odell

.... AND ...

George Bradshaw who married Hannah Pettit in 1860 at Odell

These couples are living next door to each other in Odell on 1861 census.

IGI suggests the parents are James & Elizabeth Bradshaw.

Thanks John

James Bradshaw was born about 1805 in Wellingborough, his wife Elizabeth was born about 1806 in Swanington, Leicestershire. I am looking for the marriage.
Their children, baptised in Odell

Thomas bap 12 apr 1837 (he married Betsy Clayson at the Bedford Register Office in 1859)
George 27 Sep 1839
William 19 Sep 1841
Jane 6 Oct 1844

There was also Mary Ann born abt 1833, no baptism found.
No John though, perhaps he got missed.

A friend did this research for her cousin.

Thank you Marilyn,

I should have said that George was born 1839 & John was born 1832. On John's marriage certificate on 14/01/1853 his father is James Bradshaw, labourer.

On 1851 census I found a John Bradshaw age 21 & Robert Bradshaw age 18, both born Odell, lodging with Charles Bailey in the stables at Odell.

Hello Marilyn,  Don't know if your friend is still researching this family.

It looks like the George Bradshaw that married Hannah Pettit is not the son of James & Betsy. Their George b 1839 was still living at home with them on 1861 census, as George & Hannah & family are listed as well.  However they may be related.

Back to 1851 both Georges b 1839 are listed, one son of James & Elizabeth (Betsy) & the other son of John & Sarah. John age 41 was also born Wellingborough - so could be brother of James age 45. John married Sarah Askew in Odell on 12 Oct 1832.

George (son of James) may have married Mary Ann How 24/11/1861 at Odell, as they have daughter Fanny baptised 10/4/1864.

As to the John Bradshaw who married Mary Headland ? could he be the Savage John Bradshaw baptised 24/07/1831 son of James & Rebecca - as a James Bradshaw married Rebecca Savage on 18/02/1821 at Odell. This pair also baptised Robert 4/6/1837 - so these brothers were the ones lodging together in 1851.

James Bradshaw was baptised 5/6/1800 at Odell and the entry says he was born 31/5/1793.  He was son of Edward & Mary Bradshaw.

Interestingly on 1861 census  Rebecca age 64 now a widow, is living next door to John & Sarah & family.

regards John

Shows how quiet the Beds board is at the moment when John is resurrecting year old threads, and I'm resorting to talking about the weather!

David,   I'm actually trying to contrive a link between my Partridges of North Beds & William Bolton Partridge of Odell through marriages betwixt the Bradshaw/Headland/Fearnell families.   I'm home alone this weekend as B has gone off to a wedding in Northern Ireland.

& as the weather is still so nice I am now going to do a bit of gardening

Cheers John

....... & Hannah Pettit b 1837 was daughter of Thomas & Sarah Pettit as per 1841 & 1851 census, but I've not found the batism on IGI.  Thomas b 1810 Odell & Sarah b 1812 Wellingborough ! ! ! - so it just so happens that it's Sarah Bradshaw who married Thomas on 26/11/1830.

+ on 1841 living next door to Thomas & Sarah are John age 76 Abigail age 68. both born out of county (could it be Northants ?) & could be parents of Sarah, John & James.

John, you may remember I was looking at the Pettits of North Beds a year or so again, as my 4xg grandmother, Elizabeth Pettit, married in Harrold in 1785. Still don't know where she was from but that's another story.

But there were also Pettits who pitched up in Harrold between 1781 and 1802 who were from Ravenstone, Bucks. One of these features on the Bedford Gaol site for leaving his family. Up until then I'd assumed, incorrectly, that they all skipped gaily back and forth only across the border with Northants.

Too hot to garden and the ground's like concrete

We have since discovered that their are NO Bradshaw baptisms in Wellingborough 1812 or earlier.

But there is this marriage

John BRADSHAW of this parish and Abigail COOPER of this marriage
19th May 1795 at Wellingborough after Banns
