Raine family Seaham - after 1901
« on: Wednesday 14 November 07 11:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Can anybody tell me anymore about these two brothers please?  They are:
William Coverdale Raine born 1874 in Seaham.  Wiliam married Mary Graham in 1898.
John Edward Raine born 1876 in Seaham, died 25/10/1919.  Buried as World One War Royal Navy dead in Grangetown Sunderland.  He married Catherine Graham from Ryhope in 1900.
Their parents were:
Thomas Raine born 1846 in Lythe, died 1907 in Seaham, sexton of Seaham Rectory.
Hannah Appleby (nee Coverdale) born 1836.  She was a widow when she married Thomas in 1871 (Sunderland), her previous husband being Francis Appleby.

Any information on this family after 1901 would be most appreciated!

Sue

Hi Sue,

There's a birth on freebmd for a Doris G. Raine, mother's maiden name Graham
Dec qu 1911 Sunderland 10a 1255

You would need the birth cert to find which of the two brothers was her father as they both married Grahams  :-\

Hi Sue, with reference to your query, I have both William and John Edward as brothers. Their mother was Hannah Mary Coverdale - previously married and widowed (Francis Appleby) from Seaham.

Nice find Lizdb

I had William on the 1939 register at London Hydraulic Electricity Company.
Also present on the 1939 is Doris G - which answers the query about her father.

Just found William Coverdale's death.

William and family are on the electoral register at the pumping station Bermondsey (possibly ROtherhithe) 1930-39. Doris's middle name is Graham
