That is really handy - thank you! I am not able to see the actual census itself, it's an "index-only" record. So all those variants I would not be able to see. The Margaret mystery stumped me! Do you perhaps know what year she died? The upper limit year is a help at the least.

So for any who are following this conversation, my great-G Andrew, his brother James, and apparently the younger Margaret all emigrated to the States. I know Andrew's family here fairly well, and somewhat of James (Boston area). If I can be of assistance to others, happy to do so.

Hello Andrew,

The Margaret born 1868. Dalry, died 1871. aged 3 years, Dalry, Ayr.

The Maggie, short for Margaret, was born 1877. in Auchinleck, Ayr, where her parents lived in the 1881 census.

Thanks - that was helpful too! If what I gleaned from my "no-look" look at the Scotland census, Margaret was a twin with William. Maggie must be the one who came here to the States, so now I'll revise accordingly.

all of these large families give me an even greater appreciation for the strong women in my bloodlines!
