Ruanes of Ballina, Co. Mayo
« on: Friday 30 November 07 19:56 GMT (UK) »
We are trying to find out what happened to the remaining four of the ten children of great grandparents Edward and Ellen (nee Egan) Ruane of Corrimbla, Ballina. Edward and Ellen married at the Cathedral in Ballina in 1866. We know the family farmed in the area and at least one son James emmigrated to America. We also know that William b. 1873 was living in Haslingden, Lancs with his brother Michael in 1905. Michael eventually settled and married  in Edinburgh but we would like to find out what happened to William in particular. Thanks for any help.

Thank you very much Mary! They are two of the sons we are missing. We suspected there was a Patrick as a Patrick Rowan (name changed from Ruane) bought the grave of a relative in Edinburgh where Michael settled.
Are you a descendant or from Ballina?
with kind regards

Hello Bob,

So far we haven't found an ancestor by the name of  Hugh in the Ruane family though we are still missing 2 of the 10 children born of Edward and Ellen. What sort of age group would your Hugh be in?
We did visit Ballina last year and discovered there were many "Ruanes" in the area! We were also told that many of them were probably related in some way. As eight of our Ruane family were males you can understand how that fact would be right!

Hello Vella, I am guestimating that Hugh was born around 1845 or a little later than that. I am betting that he later settled in Pittston PA in the coal regions. I believe some lived there too. Bob My direct email is email removed to prevent spamming and other abuses.  Please use Personal Messaging system to exchange personal information.I wonder if your family has any O'Boyle girls marying the Ruane boys?

Hello Pukeen,

No Kate as far as we know though we are still searching for 2 more Ruanes out of the 10. All 8 are males! Do you know if your Kate had any brothers?

Sadly, I don't know any more about her than her name.  I am still working on it though.
