Hi there,

I've just registered on this forum as I saw something appear in Google which related to my family!

My name is (*). My grandparents are (*) and (*), Saers Farm, St. Mary Church. I've just moved to Penarth. I'd be very interested in finding out a little bit more about my past. I know that my grandad used to live at Castella Fawr, and also lived in Llanmaes (I think!). They also lived at what is now Saers Court (this used to be the farmhouse).

Hello Mark it's good to hear from you.  (*) and (*) are my aunt and uncle (I'm (*) daughter).  I don't know where to start.  I have traced our ancestors as far back as 1662 (I think) but still have to verify some of it and it ground to a halt recently due to Christmas and planning a new kitchen!  I have attached a copy of my findings (if you can read it).  Most of the family came from Groeswen or Eglwysilan near Caerphilly or from Llantrithyd (there's lots of Christophers in the churchyard there who are related to us).  Castellau Fawr was a lovely house (well it still is - it was for sale recently).  (*) is also on this forum and is a cousin of ours who lives near St Mary Church.  Most of the farms between Cardiff and Bridgend had or have relatives living on them at one time or another.

It's good to hear from you and I will keep you posted if I find anything interesting.....

Kind regards   Susan  :)

That's fantastic. I can't believe you've managed to trace the family back that far!

I see you are looking for Radcliffe family Llanharry.
My great grandmother was Mary Radcliffe born in the pub there.
Have other links with Radcliffes of Ystradowen, Trerhingyll and farms in the Vale
Malcolm

Hello Malcolm (and Morgan)

I have been able to research lots of Radcliffes from all over the Vale.  My family tree is on ancestry.co.uk.  Since i joined Ancestry it keeps prompting me for details of other family trees who contain the same people or census and BMD records.  Once I have a census record for 1 person it gives me everybody else who lives at the same address so suddenly have expanded my family from 200 to 571 members in under a month!  I haven't found out anything interesting yet, mostly occupations and addresses but I'll keep trying.  We all seem to be farmers or coal miners in my family.  Virtually every farm in the Vale of Glamorgan has or has had somebody living there who is related to me!

Happy researching

Susan

Hello  :)

Re the Radcliffe Surname:

The easiest way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests
in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it at the top of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

Kind Regards
Morgan
