Help! Where is he from?
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 23:05 GMT (UK) »
This is a LONG shot!

My mum has been trying to find the origins of this chap and his family for years with no luck. I have recently taken up this line. The surname is AMES/HAMES/EAMES The furthest back we have is Martin Frampton Ames born c1721 ?? no idea where! He married Mary ?? yet again no idea. The first child is born in Tarrant Gunville 1742, a son Frampton. Any info of Martin Ames and his wife before this would be of great use!

Regards

Hi there

I have the info on Martin Frampton Ames Jr. It's his father Martin Snr that i am desperatly trying to find! - and the marriage to Mary! This is the earliest stuff i have-

Martin Frampton Ames was born c1721, died in 1792 in Tarrant Gunville  at age 71, and was buried on 10 Jul 1792 in Tarrant Gunville.

Martin married Mary Unknown. Mary died in 1788. They had seven children: Frampton, Martin, Mary, Peninnah, Walter Deacon, Peninnah, and Thomas.

The chap you found,- Frampton Ames- was born in 1742  and died on 3 Jul 1811 in Tarrant Gunville  at age 69.

Frampton married Elizabeth Clark. They had nine children: Martin Frampton, Sarah, Ann, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Walter, Frampton, and James Bishop.

Martin Frampton Ames was born in 1772  and was christened on 23 Feb 1772 in Tarrant Gunville.

My line is through Penninah 1752.

But thank you very much for taking the time and effort to help!

Many regards

Penninah  ;)

Hi
Just a thought but bearing in mind that mention of Deacon.
Martin Fiander married Mary Dean at Poole 7.3.1735.

Could it be a mishearing of Frampton and Deacon?
It's by licence and both are from Poole

Thanks Cider,

Deacon must be there further back as must Peninah and Frampton. Martin snr was born July 10th 1721 not sure where though. I did find a marriage in Iwerne Courteney 14 March 1712 between a Thomas Hames and a Mary Frampton... not sure if it is a connection.

I can't see the baptism you are after.  However:

Parish register for Iwerne Courtney, Dorset records

Marriage at Farrington 14 March 1712/13 of Thomas Hames of Childe Okeford and Mary Frampton of Pimperne

Baptisms at Pimperne of possible children of Thomas and Mary

16 February 1715/16 Mary d/o Thomas and Mary Ames
11 February 1718/19 Thomas and Elizabeth (twins) s and d/o Thomas and Mary Ames
5 July 1722 Joseph s/o Thos. Ames
19 May 1728 John Deacon Ames (no parents' names) [it so happens that another person on the same page was noted as being baptised as an adult, and there are no parents' names for him either, but John's age is not indicated in any way]

John Deacon Ames was buried at Pimperne 5 July 1728

Awesome thank you so much!!!

I find the birthdate/baptism date all over the place for Martin Frampton Ames but no parents, place of birth and no source to the date!!

I wish I could get through this brick wall and this couple look like a serious contender for Martin's parents, right names, right area and having children at the right time!

That John Deacon Ames is VERY interesting too, must be a connection with that name surely! I just need to figure this out. Was there no age for John's burial? Chances are he was unwell when baptized as he died not long after.

A Martin Frampton, yeoman, was buried in Pimperne in 1695. He had a daughter, Mary, there in 1684.

His inventory is on Ancestry, indexed under Marlen Strampton.

(There is a Frampton Road in Pimperne!)
