Link: Devonshire Smugglers

Authenticated material plus documents, manuscripts and records, which were retrieved from a vault in St. Mary's Church, Brixham, dating back to 1300 AD help to establish that Bob Elliot, a notorious Devonshire smuggler, resided at one of two cottages at present forming part of The Smugglers Haunt Hotel.

An article titled Smuggler's Britain on the smuggling.co.uk website including the South Devonshire coast mentions Jack Rattenbury who was born in the village of Beer in 1778. Jack was the leader of a gang of nineteenth century Devonshire smugglers.

Some of the tales about smugglers are not one hundred percent  accurate so if anyone finds authenticated information about smugglers please post details of the source as such information could be helpful to members who may have a few smugglers in their family tree.
