There was a Parochial School at Ballaclague in the Parish of Arbory.

The History of the Academy and Grammar School at Castletown was written sometime around 1815 by a Cleric. The identity of the writer of the History is not known but it's thought he may have been Rev. Hugh Stowell (1768-1835).

An article about the Hon. James K. Ward in the Manx Quarterly, #9 1910 mentions that there was a private school in Finch-road, Douglas in the early 1800s.

The foundation stone of Hanover Street School, Lord Street, Douglas was laid on 4th July 1888. The school opened just over a year later on 26th August 1889 and closed in 1946. Following the school's closure all pupils over eleven years of age moved to Ballakermeen and all pupils under eleven years of age moved to Tynwald Street School.

The Methodists in Douglas had schools at Thomas Road in the 1830s and Well Street by the 1840s. In 1850 Thomas Street became a school for girls and Well Road became a school for boys. A qualified teacher arrived at Well Road in 1854. In 1898 the Methodist Schools were handed over to the board of Education.

The foundation stone of King Williams College was laid in 1830 and the College began its active life on the 1st August, 1833, and was the first of the Public Schools which were established during the earlier part of the nineteenth century.

Albert Road School, Ramsey, opened in 1904 and is scheduled to relocate to new premises at the end of the summer term next year.

Thwaites Isle of Man Guide and Directory of 1863 shows that there were five schools in the Rushen area. They were ... Ballafesson School, The Girls Parochial School at Cross Four Ways, the Infant School, the Parochial School and the Parochial (New) School
