He was a ship master Working up and down the east coast of australia.
He died  27/8/1934  and was burried in Tweed Heads NSW

If he went to sea and worked off Australia, that would explain why he doesn't appear in the 1911 census.
Its great to get new information and follow it through
I guess then that your husband is the second cousin to my wife

Dear Jimbo09
My father-in-law (f.i.l) was born in Balmain (Sydney) 1917
I shall ask him when they migrated.

Where are you? Dublin? England?

Is your wife's      mum or Grandmother -  Susan Ann born 18/12/88?

Where are you? Dublin? England?

Our Susan Anne Dowzard ended up in Belfast, with two daughters, who each lived in Co. Down, and they both had families which now are spread through Ireland North and South,to England and Scotland, and Holland and USA.

Have you seen the ireland census link
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rathmines/Fitzgerald_Street/1295453/
Susan is included  and your Edward John.
This MaryAnne is Edwards second wife, and of the children listed only Martha belongs to this MaryAnne

Kooky,
We appear to have invaded your topic.
What is the forum protocol - should George64 and I take our discussions to a different post?

My F.I.L memory not so good. He does not no when his dad came to Australia.
He recalls that an Aunt came some years later... to Melbourne.  He never met her but thinks
it was Katherine.
1890 Edward died on board "SS Urana" 8/1934.
Thank you for all the links, i found them extremely interesting.
Your wife's mum and my F.I.L are 1st cousins... am i allowed to ask you any info on her?

Kooky how does your Susan fit in?
All Dowzard's in Australia are related.... they come from my F.I.L or his 2 half brothers...
