I wonder if Christian and Catherine were interchangeable.

Not as a general rule. This could have been an exceptional case, or more likely a mistake by whoever provided the information or wrote it down.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

thanks, it was wishful thinking.  ann baird's death cert. on scotlandspeople did have another death recorded on the same page and that persons maiden name was also "beattie".  peter duncan was the registrar and over the years his penmanship was very readable.  so, i'm thinking that maybe ann and alexander's children just called their grandmother catherine instead of christian.  but a nagging doubt exists in my mind, because of the naming conventions.

Charles son (of Alexr and Ann) had a son called David Beattie Baird and a daughter Elizabeth Milne Baird so I'm thinking that there has to be a beattie and milne in their somewhere.  A David Beattie and Jean Milne were married 1771 Kincardine??  I"m bearing in mind that Charles' wife's father name was David.

This is so confusing??

It's rather confusing actually as I also have an Ann Clark on the Ann Sheret family line.Ann Sheret 1836's grandmother was an Ann Clark but I'm sure an unrelated person to yours.

Hi Bev.

I believe we have the same lines. I have an Ann Sheret, parents William Sheret and Margaret Dundas?

Ann would be my 1st cousin 5x removed.

I also have Ann's grandparents as James Sheret and Ann Clark.

I descend down from them, through their child James Sheret b.1782 who married a Sarah Fettes.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Jill.

Hello Bevin.

Thanks for getting back to me. It was a long shot as the post is old, so thank you for replying. :)

I did post this today yes.

I am local to the area. I live near Arbroath in Angus. None of my direct lines emigrated, plenty of branches have though. :)
