Thanks Steve.  I have seen that birth entry before but I don't think that Sheret family belongs to mine.  There was an Alexander Sheret born 1802 belonging to another branch. I think he is likely the father of this Ann.
Thanks for trying though. I appreciate it.

hi, your message is quite old now, but I am wondering about Ann Sheret m. Alexander Baird.  Do u know if he was born in Montrose or Tannadice about 1824, whose father was Alexander and mother Ann Clark?  I am trying to find Alexr. who seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.

thanks.

Hi Sara and/or Derek
Unfortunately my Alexander Baird's parents were not those you're looking for.  They were Alexander Baird b Montrose 1799 and wife Mary Brown b 1811 in Benholm Kincardineshire.

It's rather confusing actually as I also have an Ann Clark on the Ann Sheret family line.Ann Sheret 1836's grandmother was an Ann Clark but I'm sure an unrelated person to yours.

Best of luck - I'm still looking too.
Frustrating but interesting.
Bev :)

Thank you Jake, the 1851 census info. is very helpful.  I was searching under Ann Baird and not Clarke for that info, so it puts everything in a different light.  I did come across John Clark and Christian Baird on familysearch.org but discounted that because a couple of months ago I found Ann Baird's death cert. and it listed her mother's name as Catherine Beattie.  I wonder if Christian and Catherine were interchangeable.

I also found a 1841 census for Catherine Beattie (age 65) on freecen living with a Margaret and Jean Clark at Maryhill.  Being a twin is also helpful because Bairdnet and Ken Coull both list a Margaret and Catherine born to Ann and Alexr.  The most interesting part is that Margaret's mother is noted as Mary Clark, father Alexr. Baird (scotlandspeople).  There was another daughter born called Catherine whose mother is also Mary and father Alexr. Baird.  Very strange.

Many thanks for this info.  It puts an interesting twist on things.  Regards, Sarah

are you sure st  cyrus is now in aberdeenshire   ???

Regrettably, yes, but only since about 1995 or thereabouts, the last time 'they' tinkered with the local authority boundaries. 'They' have reorganised local government several times since 1974/5, which is a real PITA, not just for family historians.

For genealogy purposes, you can just ignore the recent changes most of the time. The only time you need to know which modern local authority area a place is in is if you want to find out which council holds burial ground records and in some cases archives.

Yes, St Cyrus is now Aberdeenshire, as is Banffshire and part of Morayshire.

That's not quite right.

All of the county of Kincardine, all of the county of Aberdeen except the City of Aberdeen, and about a third of the county of Banff are in what is now called Aberdeenshire.

The remaining two thirds of the County of Banff, plus the whole of the county of Moray except the bits of the parishes of Cromdale Inverallan and Advie and Abernethy and Kincardine which were in the traditional county of Moray, now make up Moray.

No part of the traditional county of Moray is in the new Aberdeenshire.

The parishes in the County of Banff which now come under Aberdeenshire are Alvah, Banff, Boyndie, Fordyce, Forglen, Gamrie, Gartly, Glass, Inverkeithny, Marnoch, Ordiquhill and St Fergus.

Those now in Moray are Aberlour, Bellie, Boharm, Botriphnie, Cabrach, Cullen, Deskford, Grange, Inveravon, Keith, Kirkmichael, Mortlach, Rathven and Rothiemay.
