Hi Judy
In the 1841 Census in District 1 Finagill was the second household visited after Dyfe Head though there was no Halliday there.  I believe Dryfe Head was the most norhern household in Hutton parish,  Very much back of beyond  :)

It can be found on www.streetmap.co.uk - the more modern map - as Finniegill
or on www.old-maps.co.uk - an 1860 map - as Finnygill

10 to 12 miles NE-ish of Lockerbie.
Regards
Reiver

Thank you very much for the replies.

I now know where Finnigal is and some other relatives of this family farmed at Dryfehead.

Does any one know where I can get information about when they were tennants here. I am presuming tennants rather than owning and I may be wrong there.

Thanks
Judy

Hi all,
just following this thread of Halliday's and variations of the surname.
Anyone with Halliday's ( or connection to the Halliday's) in the Hutton and Corrie area of Dumfriesshire please make contact.
FARMS mentioned in a large family tree that I am working on include:
Orchard, Woodend, Lochbrow Meikle Whitriggs, Rivox, Penlaw, Griegland.
I have access to significant research that has already been done by others ( over a no' of years and well referenced inmost cases)
I am now looking to fill gaps and obtain further proof of accuracy of this Hutton and Corrie ( area) family tree, by contacting living relatives from this line.
If you have any information ( particularly WILLS, mortcloth info, MI's etc) please make contact.
ALso does anyone have H&C MI's?? prior to 1817??

Other surnames in the tree include - mainly females marrying Halliday men....include:
( but not limited to):
Thorburn, Carruthers, Jardine, Dinwoodie ( or variations of) Laidley or Laidlaw,
,Goodfellow, Roddick, Ruthven, Rogerson, Porteous, Little

regards Anne-Louise Halliday

Another question about Finnigil,

Does any one know if FINGLAND was the same as FINNIGIL (aka Finnygil, Finnigal, Finniegil)

Thank you

Judy

Fingland is not the same place as Finniegil,
There are a few farms with different variartions of Fingland within  there name

Anne Louise

I am Paul Rogerson and my granny is a Thorburn, I am sure there may also Hallidays there too.  We stay a couple of miles from Finniegil

Dryfe Head and Finniegill are now private households, prior to the 1960s they both belonged to the Waterhead of dryfe estate
