MASON/HUDSON Dingle
« on: Wednesday 09 January 08 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Connected to my tree somehow is Richard Francis Huggard Hudson, born 23rd December 1886, to Maria Mason and Robert Hudson (medical doctor) of Bridge House, Dingle.  I am trying to find out where his 'Huggard' name (one of his first names) comes from.  I am working on the theory that his mother Maria Mason was the daughter of a Huggard who married a Mason.

Richard was a solicitor in Tralee who died in 1954.  Just to make things more interesting, there is more than one Richard Huggard solicitor in Tralee!  Any and all clues more than welcome!

Thanks
Jaylay

Hello Jaylay,

Thomas Huggard was the solicitor for the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway Company.
He acted on their behalf at an enquiry in 1893 www.tdlr.org.uk/curraduff.pdf

Thank you Christopher - unfortunately that Thomas is not one of mine - although he was in a solicitor's practice with a Richard Huggard (just to add to the challenge!)  - the one that Richard Huggard Hudson was named for (I think).  Since my original post, I have discovered other Mason - Huggard links which have helped - although this mystery has yet to be solved!

That's the other Richard Huggard (there were two) - the one you have found is definitely related to me - he had practices in Dublin and Tralee - he was also married to a Maria Mason (confused yet  ???) so you can perhaps see why I am slowly tearing my hair out...

That Richard you just found married Maria Mason in 1842, and died in Dec 1872.  He had two daughters, one of whom, Catherine Wilhelmina (Katie) married William Blennerhasset Rowan, son of Arthur Blennerhasset Rowan, Archdeacon of Ardfert.  William was a widow when he married Katie in 1877 and I would love to find any of their children.

Hello Jaylay,

Would the Rowan papers, c.1909, incl. pedigrees of Blennerhassett, [NLI] Ms 20621 contain any information about William and Catherine?

Thank you Mary - yes it does add to the confusion - I got that marriage cert a few weeks ago, and found that that Richard was a petty sessions clerk, whereas my Richard was a solicitor - see this link for more details

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,297673.0.html

To make things EVEN more confusing, they ALSO had a son called Richard.  Thank you again, Mary for your help, and for reminding me to dig further with this couple - I had put the cert aside but I will do more detective work now!
