Barnsond? Irongray - completed
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 11:39 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone read this? I think it says 'Barnsond, Irongray' and 'Barnsond Cottage, Irongray'.  And does anyone know where it is?

hi julieann

there's a irongray church about 5 miles north west of dumfries
you would need a fairly detailed map to find it

Thanks.  Is Irongray an actual village?  I have a couple of photos from the 1920's which I will post.  I thought it must be a reasonable size if it has a church?

I just put Irongray into www.old-maps.co.uk and the first place I saw was called Battersan.

 :D

I guess there were some spelling variations

hi

doesn't seem to be a village as such
there are farms and cottages and an irongray bridge
the first photo looks like the train station

Thanks.  Food for thought.  I think that first pic is a railway station as well.  :)

Hi.

The word is Barnsoul.  If you Google it you will find there is a farm and caravan site at Barnsoul.

Irongray is just an area.

I believe there was a station at Irongray.  I know where it was but that is all.

I live in the Irongray area so if I can help with photographs let me know.
