1871 Census Bathgate
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 22:35 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone  :)

Can someone please find out what happened to
JANE AITKEN born c1868 Bathgate,Linlithgowshire
JOHN AITKEN born c1870 Bathgate,Linlithgowshire

They appear on the 1871 census  at the address Balmuir Cottages,Bathgate,West Lothian with Father Thomas, Mother Mary, Grandmother Jane, sister Agnes and Robert Ballanytne lodger.

In 1881 the family is at Rosemont, Linlithgowshire in West Lothian minus Jane and John.

I haven't been able to find them on the 1881 census or any later ones.
I've had a look at SP and tried to find a death (using all name variants I could think of - but nothing is coming up)

Any help please.

Hello Raylen,

Obviously by the 1891 census 'your' Jane might have been married. :O)

Shall have  a look for John tomorrw.

I take it you've been in the IGI (www.familysearch.org) for births to this family after 1881? or are aware of the possibles - I saw 3.

I take it that the mother Marys maiden name was Brown and that Jane was born on 22 Nov 1867 and John on 29 Dec 1869.

Off to zzzz  Good luck with the searching......   :O)  Regards,   Steve

Hello karenlee and Steve

Thank you for your information.

On checking this a bit further I have found a Jane C Aitken born c1886
to this family appearing on the 1891 census, which makes me now think
that the first Jane (born c 1868) may have died.
Given that the 1st Jane doesn't appear on the 1881 census and the 2nd Jane
was 5years old on the 1891 census I'm having a guess that she died between 1871
and 1886.

I found 2 deaths that looking promising.

Jane Aitken died 1877 Muiravonside
Jane Aitken died 1872 Bathgate

I don't know if anyone can give me an age or mothers name for these or
otherwise, it looks like I might have to feed my SP some money and have a look at them
to get some more details  ::)

Thanks for all the help
