« on: Thursday 17 January 08 10:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for Matthew Jeffers believed to been born about 1816 in the North of  Ireland ,  his son Joseph was born 1842 and later moved to Liverpool, his 1869 marriage certificate states that his father Matthew was a Farmer. Looking at Griffiths the only Matthew Jeffers entered for Ulster is in Lisnadil Parish, Is anybody researching this family? Any information gladly received. Thanks.

Hello jimgillbanks,

What denomination were the Jeffers family? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi Christopher, When Matthew's son Joseph born 1842, married in 1869 it was at St Luke C of E Liverpool, but his children were Baptised in RC Churches, but at least two of them married in C of E Churches, so I'm not sure what denomination Matthew would have been. Regards, Jim.
