Ann Parkin 1851 census look up pls
« on: Friday 18 January 08 13:34 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with a look up on the 1851 census for Morland or Thrimby Westmorland for Ann Parkin born about 1823. She may be living with parents and siblings but am not 100% sure. Her parents were Henry and Eizabeth i think. She was either born in Morland or Thrimby i think.
Many thanks
Julie

Hello Julie

I haven't been able so far to find her in 1851, although I think I have her in 1841, if you want those details.

I also found on the IGI a baptism for Ann Parkin 9 March 1823 in Morland, parents Henry and Elizabeth.  That is an extracted record.

There are also a couple of sumbitted records giving Henry Parkin and Elizabeth Sewell as parents, and four submitted entries for a marriage of Henry Parkin and Elizabeth Sewell 12 March 1821 (all have the same date)

There is an extracted baptism for Henry Parken in Morland 23 May 1793, parents Henry Perken and Ann Holme

I know you didn't ask for that - and I'm still looking on the 1851!  Let me know if you want the 1841 family.

Hi,
Many thanks for that info. I know that Ann had a daughter in 1853 called Margaret Ann who i believe to be illigitimate, but it is possible that Ann married and was living with Margaret's father. However Margaret was a Parkin hence my illigitimate theory. Ann did move to Haslingden , Lancs at some stage as she is there in 1861 but without Margaret. Margaret is lodging with someone in 1861 in Morland but i don't know who. This side of my family is facinating as somewhere along this line the family were well off and one of the daughters got pregnant by the stable hand or something. I am wondering if it is Ann. Margaret was my Great Great Grandmother on my mum's side and it is supposed to be in her family that this happened.
Thanks for the help you have given me i shall just have to keep looking for Ann on the 1851 and see if she turns up anywhere. She may have been in service if the theory is correct.
Best wishes
Julie

Hi,

Knowing the background from a previous look up I think this could well be Ann:

1851
Wickerslack, Maulds Meaburn, Westmorland

Thomas Swainson, Head, M, 66, Farmer of 80 Acres, Wickerslack Westmorland
Mary, Wife, M, 65, Sleagill Westmorland
Joseph, Son, U, 42, Sleagill Westmorland
ANN PARKIN, Serv, U, 26, General Serv. Sleagill Westmorland.

Regards,
Mo

Hi again Mo,
Yes i think you have cracked it again, this looks like her. I have ordered a birth certifiacte for Margaret by the way and will let you know if there is a father listed when i get it sometime next week.
Thanks again ,this family is starting to make a little more sense at long last. It has only taken over 2 year sto track them down!
Julie

Hi Julie,

I just realised that I never included the full 1861 census for Margaret as I think at the time it was speculation, but then highly probable!!

Shap Beck Cottage, Morland , Township of Thrimby, Westmorland

John Brown, Head, M, 46, Railway Labourer, Westmorland Milburn
Ann, Wife, Mar, 39, Westmorland Long Marton
Thomas Bland, Father in law, Wid, 77, Labourer on Turnpike, Long Marton
MARGARET A PARKIN, Boarder, 7, Westmorland Newby
Margaret A Dobie, Boarder, 2, Westmorland Orton

Regards,
Mo
