Geo. Scougal/Scougall in 1901 NBL pls COMPLETED WITH THANKS!
« on: Saturday 26 January 08 17:47 GMT (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters! I give up!  :'( I cannot find this family in 1901 and yet I am certain they both are alive and having children! Specifically, I seek George Scougal/Scougall b. abt 1867 in Acklington, NBL and his wife, Alice (nee: Fail) b. 1871 in Burton?, NBL. They had a son, James Fail Scougal b. 1892  in Morpeth dist. who does not appear in the deaths on freeBMD.  I believe they had several sons, also named George b. 1903 and 1911 whom I believe died in infancy. Can anyone find George and Alice in 1901 in NBL?  ??? I can't seem to find them. Thanks so much.  Pat

Sarah Annie Scougal was my Grandmother. Her brother James Fail Scougal died in WW1 in the Dardanelles. His name appears on a monument there but also in the main street in Bedlington. I don't know if that is useful to you

Hello Flipper66 and thank you so much for the information. I was unaware that he had perished in the Great War.  By chance, do you happen to know what happened to another sibling that I have been unable to trace? That would be Robert Scougal who was born 1900 in Bedlington, I believe this younger Brother, George William Scougal was born June Qtr 1901 and died in Dec Qtr 1904, presumably also in Bedlington. I am in contact with a second cousin of this family who lives in that area. If you should desire further details, please PM me about her. Thank you sincerely, patrexjax

I have also been unable to find out anything about Robert b.1900. My father never mentioned an Uncle Robert but he did tell me about other siblings so you would think that if Robert had survived  he would know. There is a death in 1940 of a Robert Scougal in the correct area but I didn't get around to ordering the certificate to try to tie it up. I wasn't sure it was related. I also have a George William dying in 1904 but I had him being born in 1903. Maybe they had more than one. There was also a younger sister, Alice born in 1907 and dying in 1923. My father mentioned her as being a Sunday school teacher. I found the death but again didn't get the cert to find out the cause.
I have George William and Alice Fail's original marriage cert and her death cert. I also have the original notification of James Fail Scougal being missing in battle and then 1 year later the letter presuming his death. I also have a photo of him in his army uniform. I could scan you copies if of interest. How are you related? You mention a second cousin. How can I PM you. Hope this is useful.
