1783 and 1785 Stamp Duty Acts
« on: Tuesday 29 January 08 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

I am currently writing a chapter of my PhD which concerns the impact of the 1783 and 1785 Stamp Duty Acts on Anglican and non-Conformist registration respectively.

Having seen a number of very useful discussions on here relating to some aspects of the Acts I thought I'd pick your collective brains.

Please could anyone give me some concrete examples from either Anglican or Dissenting Registers of

1. an increase of events immediately prior to the introduction of the Acts or after their repeal
2. multiple baptisms within the same family either before or after
3. specific reference to the Acts
4. Rough estimates of the number of 'P's or 'Pd'
5. anything else interesting for these registers!

Very best wishes,

Stuart

Hello Stuart,

I will respond to your PM to me, separately.  In the interim, I discovered your posting here with a request for specific examples.  I think I may also be able to help in that regard.  But more details about that on the PM, as well.  As it's the wee hours of the morn' (Eastern Standard Time) I'll send PM later during the day.

Sincerely,
Susan

Your dissertation sounds interesting, and I hope you will share some of findings with us.

In case you haven't seen all of these already, there are more topics on Non-Conformists in the

4. Rough estimates of the number of 'P's or 'Pd'
try looking in the lexicon under P. or Pd. or directly, under  Stamp Duty
