My grandmother was Velma Agnes Matilda Worms b 05/04/1917 in Ponsonby

They may have been cousins - I think their was a Lewis Samuel - I have this as well...

New Zealand Worms descend from Samuel Lewis WORMS who married Hannah JOSEPH (d of Simon) at the Great Synagogue London 27 Sept 1826  Source Marriage Register of Great Synagogue London.
I have children of the marriage Rosetta, Hannah, Elizabeth, Lewis Samuel b c 1827, Sidney Joseph bn 1837 (he was living in South America by 1884) )
According to the letter written by M C Worms this Lewis Samuel WORMS went to Ceylon to work on tea plantations connected with the Worms family. He married a mixed race girl and was not accepted by the family back in England, and they ended up going to NZ. One of Samuels sons was William Worms Bn 1876, and he had 2 sons William Frederick Bn 1916 and Malcolm Coverdale Worms bn c 1920 (another researcher lists sisters Una, Dora and a brother Roy)

Not Samuel I'm afraid, but I have found info on his widow

This is from the Auckland City Libraries cemetery database for Symonds Street Cemetery (which has a large Jewish section)

The New Zealand Herald of 28\10\1902 has Matilda Catherine Worms died 25 October 1902 aged 65 years, relict of Samuel Lewis Worms and nee Lyon, and buried 28 October 1902 in Symonds Street Cemetery. 

Am going to the Central Library tomorrow (Saturday) so will have a look there

Heaps of WORMS buried in Hillsborough, including Lewis Sam aged 63, 1931.

My great grandfather alfred was definitely born 1871 =Lewis Sam aged 63, 1931 - would have been 3!.  Lewis is Alfred's brother.
