place name wooler?

would be interested to know if wooler was place and does it still exist my great great grandfather is listed in 1861 census as being born there his name was james mathison he was born in 1805 or 1806

Do not overlook the superb site on "all things on all Northumberbriam towns and villages"..

Then go to sub-site for Wooler... yes read the history, but do not miss the old photos etc. And look at the bit on "Printed Material" which includes Parsons and Whites Trade Directory for 1827.......

There is James the Cooper and William and Thomas the Wheelmakers.... Mathisons that is....
