I'm beginning to think that perhaps he is the dad - maybe even the age given in 1841 is wrong - who knows

Looking at the baptisms of the children in Newington, their father was shown as a farrier - perhaps Emily Jane elaborated that to being a vetinary surgeon so there's still scope for a couple of scenarios
