MOORE family of the Bow, Devon area
« on: Saturday 16 February 08 00:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Robert Moore married Joanna Jury on 24/6/1770 in Crediton.

They had Betty, Robert, Martha, John, William (bap. 28/6/1789) and Ann between 1773 and 1792 (all baptised in Nymet Tracey).

William Moore (1789) married Anne Kelladay in 1810 in Spreyton.

They had Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Robert, William (bap. 26/5/1815), John, James, Agnes and Charlotte between 1810 and 1822 (all bap. Nymet Tracey).

I am trying to find the birth of Robert Moore about 1750 in the Bow area but am having no luck.

Can anyone help please?

Hi, I think I must be related to Zingarakj as William Henry Moore and Winifred (nee Vanstone) were my grandparents.  I have some personal knowledge of them as well as some of their children (my aunts and uncles) I used to spend time at their cottage in Seaton Junction before William was killed.

Hi,

Some of the earlier stuff you have posted (i.e. Pre Henry Moore) has been very helpful, thanks. I note in your list of surnames you have Vanstone and Kingdon which I find very interesting as I thought I had found a Kingdon connection and did loads of work on it but later decided I had got it wrong and dumped everythi. I'd be very interested in your info

Regards

Hi Silverdale,

You must be a first cousin to my Dad then!  William Henry Moore and Winifred  Vanstone were also his grandparents. I had heard about William being killed by a train at Seaton Junction, but don't know much more than that. I also wondered why he wasn't called up during WW1 as he had previously been in the army.

The Kingdon surname on my family tree is from my Mum's side of the family so unrelated to the Moore/Vanstone tree. Of course there may be other Kingdoms in the Moore/Vanstone family tree that I haven't come across.

Hi Zingarakj,

Sounds right, My mother was a Moore and I knew 2 of her brothers, Will who lived in Shute and Ernie who lived in Clapton when I knew them.  I hope your Grandfather was Ernie as I knew them and their children very well.  My father and Will identified the body when William Henry was killed. I suspect he wasn't called up because of his railway work which would have been deemed important to the war effort.  I have had no success tracing his army service, I thought I had a hot lead but it was a red herring,  I shall press on however as I am very interested in military matters, do you have anything on that?.

Spooky about the Kingdon surname as I thought I had found a connection with Kingdon/Kingdom (it varies from document to document) and did loads of work on it only to find I was mistaken.  It would be even more spooky if your Kingdon turned out to be the one I was researching.
