Hamar and Luther gravestones in St George's churchyard, Clun
« on: Sunday 17 February 08 18:20 GMT (UK) »
Hullo all,
Does anyone have or could someone possibly take a photograph of these graves?

Pedestal tomb. Circa 1830-5. Sandstone ashlar. Moulded plinth, sunken
panels, moulded cornice and concave capping to swagged urn-finial. To Moses
(died 1835) and Edith (died 1838) Hamar and their 7 children (died 1811).
Inscribed: "The above children of Moses and Edith Hamar/of Colestay in this
Parish were all/carried off by a Putrid Fever with/ awful rapidity in the
short space of/Three Weeks - a sad instance of the/ uncertainty of human
life" ''

(They are my 4x great grandparents)

Also:
Chest tomb. Circa 1830. Sandstone ashlar. Chamfered plinth, sunken
panels (end-panels with large shallow recessed lozenges), rebated corners
with quadrant angles and vase-shaped balusters as nook shafts, and cavetto
moulding to plain top. To John (died 1830) and Ann (died 1858) Luther.

( These also are my 4x great grandparents! )

I would very much like to add them to my family tree if possible.
Many thanks
Mary

Ah good

This is a new website to me so apologies if I'm going over old issues and not posting correctly!

My mother was Mary Hamar born at Bicton and my Grandmother was Miriam Hamar née Jones born at Edenhope, Mainstone.

I imagine there's lots of cousins out there!

Dear Brightdove
My great grandmother was Annie Louisa Jones born at Edenhope and her mother was Charlotte Hamar born at Lower Down near Lydbury North. Annie Louisa married Herbert Stedman of Bucknell and they emigrated to South Africa. I've done quite a lot of investigation into the Jones family of Edenhope. I have Charlotte Hamar's sampler of 1842 and ambrotype. Do email me and I'll send you the information that I have

Hello Mary,

Are your relations Moses Hamar and Edith “Eddy” Longford who lived in Clun and had a number of children?

If so I am a relation (in Canada) through their daughter Martha who married William Francis and I would love to exchange info if your willing!

Thanks!
