George Johnson born Kings Cross (Completed)
« on: Monday 25 February 08 21:47 GMT (UK) »
I'm fairly new to this Forum but have seen so many helpful replies, I wonder if anyone can help.  I am looking for details of George and any family.  I know very little, so am not sure if anyone will be able to help.  He was born about 1860 in Kings Cross. I think his wife was Emma, but not sure.  He had a son George Sidney, born 1892 in Barking, Essex, who was my husband's ggrandfather.  He married Rebecca Lane in Harby, Notts, which was a long way from Essex in those days!

Sorry this is so vague.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wow - thanks for the speedy reply and confirming Emma.  I've tried to find George's parents, but not sure where to look as it is such a common name.  Also have not found a marriage for George and Emma.

If you have any more thoughts, I would appreciate the help.

2 possible marriages but as Emma was born in the west ham area the first is more probable
West Ham 4a 170 Oct-Dec 1891 to Emma Pye
Bethnal Green 1c 406 Apr-Jun 1891 possibly to Emma Harriet Ribbons.

Hi Lynne
I hope I'm doing this right as I've just discovered this website through researching my family tree on the internet and in particular searching back through my fathers line; as a result I found your post talking about George Sidney Johnson. My interest in him stems from a marriage certificate I've just received from GRO, for the marriage of William James Johnson (my grandfather) to Rosa May Eshmade on 9th May 1926. It shows George Sidney Johnson, sign writer, as Williams father and hence my interest in your post!! Am I correct in saying, from your research and the replies of others, that my grandfather William had a brother George Sidney ( I agree with what you say about originality!) "junior"? And did you conclude that seniors wife was Emma Yeo? Did you get a marriage date in the end? Sorry it's such a long message for my first post but I wanted to explain and I'm hoping that even though you posted in 2008 you are still looking on this site??!!
Best regards, Paul

Hi Paul
Yes, I am still here!

George Sidney born 20 March 1860 married Emma Yeo born 19 Dec 1866 on 14 Aug 1923 at Woolwich Register Office.  They were aged 63 and 56, so no wonder I couldn't find them in the date range I had searched!  Wonder why they waited so long.

Their son, George Sidney was born in 1893 and died in 1968.  He was my husband's grandfather.

Let me know if you would like any more information.  Do you have a photo of William?

Hi Lynne

So glad you were able to read my message!

After I wrote my entry to you I spent many hours going through all the messages on the theme of George Sidney and I have managed, through your forum thread, to forward my own investigation quite a lot further than I could have hoped, so thank you very much, and thank you for your reply and confirmation particularly in connection with Emma Yeo

I do have a photo of William James. I don't know how to forward it on or indeed if I am able to if you are actually asking to see it?!

Best regards

Paul

I would love to see it!  I believe it is possible to send private messages but I am not sure how to do it. Perhaps someone here could advise us?
