Hi I have also been researching Goudie - I have found that Bruce Goudie (1838-1896) had a brothe Laurence (1840-) They were born Gaudie but he changed it to Goudie when he migrated to New Zealand. Although his mother'd death certificate also had the name Goudie. I think there was also a possibility that the handwriting and/or pronunciation changed. I am also interested in your research Kind regards David Goudie

Although I have no connection with the family I suggest (if you have not already done so) you log onto   http://www.bayanne.info/Shetland
They have a record of 1531 individuals bearing the surname Goudie and 7 with the surname spelled Goudy.

Do you refer to Laurence Goudie b: 12 Feb 1805 in Scousburgh, Dunrossness? See web http://bayanne.info/Shetland/getperson.php?personID=I95977&tree=bayanne_1

Variants of the name could be Goudy, Gowdy, Gowdie, Gauden, Gaudie, Gadie (original spelling dating back to 1545) but most common is Goudie.

Good luck.

Curious if anybody else is tracing the line of John William Goudie born 26 March 1838 at Tingwall, the son of John born 1810 and Robina Nee Robertson.  John William had three siblings Robert, William and Isaac.

Yes I have confirmed some details on the family tree I am compiling on  the Bayanne Web Site too.
