Lewis of Cowbridge 1851
« on: Monday 10 January 05 23:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the family of my great great grandfather Richard Lewis whom I believe comes from Cowbridge although this varies on different documents. Richard was born about 1848 and his father was Henry Lewis, a postman.

With great luck they will be in Cowbridge and easy to locate.

I am hoping some kind soul will have the means of locating them in the 1851 census and will help to move this particular brick wall

Many thanks

I haven't been able to locate Richard in the census there are too many matches (none state Cowbridge born). However did find this for a Henry and he is a letter carrier:

interesting that you found that entry. I had found it on a search on the web and it says that Henry was a lodger. If that is the case his family must be elsewhere----but where???

Many thanks for your help I'll just have to keep digging

Jane

Do you have a name for Henry's wife? If so I can see if there is an entry for her

No. That is what I was hoping to find. I believe that Richard had joined the army by 1871 so I am hoping that perhaps the 1861 census might help. Lewis is not the esiest name to trace in Glamorgan.

Thanks again
