Hello Scott,  Have just come across your 'rootsweb' info on Morland family of Stranraer - my Gt GFather was born in Stranraer, name of Thomas Clement Morland.  I am also in NZ.  Perhaps there is a connection???  Kind regards,  Juliet

Hi Terry,  I`ve got some relatives who were from Inch, not sure if they stayed/died there or not, apart from this first couple. I`d be grateful if you`d see if you have anything on them. The timescale would be from about 1790 through the 1800s.

James McKenzie died 23/10/1866 age about 89 I think & wife Mary Beggs (she died before 1851)

Thomas Beggs & Grisal Drynan

John McDowall & Ann Beggs

Charles Murray & Janet Beggs

David Main or Mein & Grisal Beggs

Thanks. Linda

I am descended from Thomas Beggs and Agnes Drynan, via their daughter, Ann, who married John McDowall and have a fairly comprehensive genealogical outline for their descendants if Linda would like to get in touch.

Message for Terry h.
I have noticed you have a lot of information from Inch.
Are you able to help me with birthdates for McWilliam family?
My ancestor, John McWilliam was born in the Leswalt/Stranraer/Inch area around 1830 / 1835 but I can find no record of him or his siblings - refer my website here;
http://www.meehan.gen.nz/getperson.php?personID=I215&tree=Meehan
I have a relative who has a copy of John's school exercise book "Practical Arithmetic and Bookkeeping"
dated 1846 at Inch School. Do you know of any Inch school records to verify Johns attendance or that of his siblings, Margaret, Janet, Grace , or Alexander?
Any help would be appreciated - I am in Otago, New Zealand.
Thankyou - Paul Meehan

Hello Terry,

I am trying to figure out if some of my Stoneykirk McDowall's were buried in Inch.  A few of them moved to Inch, confirmed in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

I'm looking for Hugh McDowall (1822-1885), his wife Jesse McDowall (nee: Weir, 1830-1869), his sister Margaret McDowall (1819-?), and most importantly his parents John McDowall (1768-?) and Elizabeth McDowall (nee: McCaig, death before 1841).  It's possible John and Elizabeth are buried back in Stoneykirk, but John is shown in the 41 and 51 censuses with Hugh and Margaret, in Inch, after he was widowed.  I'm wondering if he (and possibly Elizabeth) is buried with Hugh?

Thank you in advance,
Kerry McCarthy

Hi Kerry,

I have checked all the McDowalls (and various other spellings) in Inch Old Parish Churchyard, unfortunately none of the names you mentioned are in the book.....sorry.
