Hi,

I'm sorry there are none of your names mentioned in my MI book......I checked the MI's for Kirkcolm Old Parish Churchyard, no joy there either.

Hi Terry,

Coud you please see if there are any mentions of the Wylie family in the Inch cemetery?
William Wylie, said to be son of Alexander Wylie, married Elizabeth McWilliam, and they had many children.
William born c1776, brother Alexander Wylie born c1778
All said to have resided at Bridgebank, Inch (alternately Bridgebank, Stranraer). If there's any mention of any of them, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks!

What's in a name like "Girzel"?

It could be a typo and in fact be Grizel.
If it's Girzel or Girsel it is not a typo.

I gather that Girsel/Girzel is an anglicisation of the Gaelic name Giorsal, and that conflation of that and the Germanic name Griselda led to interchangeability of the two spellings. Girsel/Girzel occurs often enough and consistently enough to suggest that that is how the name was pronounced.

Both names are also frequently interchanged with Grace, so you may find a baptism of a Grizel or Girsel who subsequently marries as Grace, or vice versa.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Stompie,

Sorry haven't been on here so much so have just seen your query. There is only the one Wylie on my Inch MI's.
In memory of William Wylie who died Febry 1817 aged 72 years. And Anabell Brown his spouse who died April 1817 aged 59 years.
