112 Church Hill, Bradford
« on: Tuesday 04 March 08 12:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi Guys

I've found one of my ancestor living at 112 Church Hill, Bradford. He's a lodger here, along with a lot of other people.

I was wondering if there was something special about this building / address that would cause so many people to lodge here.

My ancestor is George R. P. Parry, born about 1816 at the Isle of Mann. He states he is married (not a widower) but his family are not with him here.

The census ref is RG10 4461 68 page 18.

Thanks in advance.

Carole

That's a lot of lodgers!

The next household is headed by John Nicholson  - with even more lodgers - who gives his occupation as lodging house keeper.  Perhaps 112 Church Hill was a lodging house too, but the head John Hutchinson's "day job" was his occupation as a general dealer (which he gave).

Indeed if you look back at 1861, John Hutchinson was already head of household (with his family plus many lodgers) at 112 Church Hill - this time giving his occupation as "Licensed Lodging House Keeper".

Ah - well spotted.  I couldn't understand why 112 should be followed by 3,4,5,24 - but didn't really think it through!
