Help/advice please.
« on: Friday 07 March 08 13:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi :)

Please could someone kindly point me in the right direction. I am trying to find information on my Irish ancestors, but I don't have a clue where to start. I only have limited information.  :(

Any help would be appreciated.

My 3xgrt granddad Edward Lynch born 1832 Londenderry. Married a Jane Neil in Glasgow in 1861.

Edwards father was John Lynch a bricklayer, (no other information) his mother was called Sarah ( unable to make out her maiden name on Edwards Marriage certificates)

I also have my Grandmother who came from Ireland (area not known) Margaret Anne Norman born 1907, who married a John Lynch in Glasgow 1928.

Margaret's Father was George Norman, Merchant seaman, (deceased on Margaret's marriage certificate) no other information Known.
Mother was Mary Catherine Moloney (no other info).

regards
Janet

Hi CaroleW

Yes, I have got the information on the Scottish census, they got about a bit.

I think maybe Hellen was born in England because they may not have been married?

I have no Idea if Edward or Jane have been married before.

It's just that I don't know were to start when looking for relatives from Ireland.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Janet,  I realize your post is from 2008, but I just recently found RootsChat while searching for information regarding my 2x great grandfather George Norman.  His son, George the younger, was born approx. 1882 and was in the Royal Navy.  He died on June 2, 1915 aboard the HMS Victory.  He had two daughters, Margaret and Mary Kate, and two sons James and George. George the younger's brother James was my great grandfather. He also had two sisters - Margaret (Duggan) and Kathleen (Deane).

If this sounds like your family I would love to correspond and exchange info.  :D

Sincerely,
Marigrace

...  He had two daughters, Margaret and Mary Kate, and two sons James and George. ...

If you look at the entire 1911 census details it says there were 7 children but only 4 living.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I do have the 1911 census.  I was typing off the top of my head without looking at it.  I am trying to find Norman/Moloney family still living in Ireland (Galway originally). There are only a handful of family still living here in the USA and their memories are sketchy as best.

1901 census spells Moloney as Mulloney. Delia Mulloney is my great grandmother. Married James Norman in 1903. 1911 census has it spelled Molloney.

George the older married Bridget Mullin in 1870. And George the younger married Mary Kate (I do not have her maiden name) in 1901(ish).

I believe George the older returned to England and may have resided at the Royal Chelsea Hospital (?) as a pensioner until he died, and am trying to find documentation regarding that. Also his parents names.

Thanks for the input, any and all help is greatly appreciated.  :D
