St Peter's Church Gildersome, Leeds
« on: Monday 10 March 08 20:34 GMT (UK) »
According to their website the present church was consecrated in 1992.
I can find nothing on the web to tell me anything about the old church bearing that name.
What happened to it? Does anybody have any information about it please?
And a picture would be even better :)
Peter

Hi Peter,

Have you tried genuki? http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Batley/more.html

Here's a picture but not sure if it's the new or the old church :-\

Thanks for the links, Barbara.
The picture of the church is of the new one and unfortunately the Genuki link doesn't really help.
I've since found that the West Yorkshire Archives have quite a lot of the records of the old church.

Hi Peter,

Yes I realise now that was the new Church, and should maybe have read the genuki link through before posting, thought it might have more background information on the Church than it actually did.

Glad you've found the West Yks site though

Kind regards, Barbara  :)

Thank you, Barbara
I'm getting quite a long list of things that need to be looked up at the WYAS.
I think a visit to Leeds is called for.

Hello, Gavin. Welcome to the wonderful world of Rootschat.
It would be interesting to hear whether or not they know anything of the history of the church.

Hi

Yes, my grandparents and Gt grandparents were married there in 1959 and 1932.

Sadly they are no longer with us.  I do remember my dad bringing a brick home from "their" church after it was knocked down.

I will try find out more

Thanks  for the reply, Gav.
I did wonder whether or not I was presuming too much after I wrote my message.  :-[
