Hi Sally

Glad you joined us!

As I mentioned on Ancestry, my hubbie is a Perkins through Susannah Eliza Perkins, Emmely Frances Watchorn, then Herbert Howard Perkins who ended up back in Wokingham, England.

Hope you pick up lots of interesting stuff from here!

Milton - did you pick up from the list of Hobart Mayors George Hiddlestone (mayor 1891, 1898)? Married into the Chapmans via George's father's (Robert) brother's (John) who married Jane Elizabeth Chapman. Sorry that not very well explained but I'm sure you've already got all that anyway. Have picked up censes records for them (George and parents) in Jarrow, Northumberland, England as late as 1851.

Yes, this is correct.
Jane Eliza & John had no issue themselves however.
Cheers.
Milton.

Hi Guys

I know it's been a long time. Hope all is well.

Have just found an archive relating to Bingley Perkins on the following link. Nothing much but interesting.

http://blars.adlibsoft.com/beginner/indnms.html

http://www.bedfordshire.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/ArchivesAndRecordOffice/SearchOurCatalogues.aspx

If links fail just search for Archives and Records Service on www.bedfordshire.gov.uk

There are also lots relating to various John Perkins. With a little digging it may shed some light on the origins of John Perkins. One is a banker, who forms a partnership with Joseph Barnard and J Wing before 1803 which eventually became Royal Bank of Scotland.

Enjoy, Perks1.

BINGO!

John Perkins was born 1812 St David's, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Parents are Henry and Mary. He had 2 brothers Peter (married Margaret Griffiths) and Thomas who emigrated to Sydney in 1833.

Links that finally solve it:

From the last link it appears that there is a fictional book 'The Captains Wife' by Eiluned Lewis based on the story of John Perkins neice Martha. John Perkins is mentioned in the book as leaving for Tasmania in 1838.  These are all based on real life people, as explained in the last link. It all fits in perfectly. I'm certain it is the same John Perkins. I must order a copy of the book and read it.

The Tasmanian Family Links database always had John Perkins birth place down as Wales - I just never believed it. Serves me right - would probably got to the bottom of it much sooner.

It would be amazing to get in touch with Sally Rackham who seems to have lots of information on the family in Pembrokeshire.

I see there is a patron submission on the IGI site where a Henry Perkins was born circa 1795, his mother was Catherine MEYLER/MAYLER.
Unfortunately not much else on this family.
Cheers.
Milton.

Hi

John Perkins was born at Llanvirn Farm, Berea, Pembrokshire - brothers appear to be Thomas (b 1805) Peter ( b 1806) and William (b1814). There must be more siblings, but they may remain a mystery.

Their parents are Henry (1778-1852) and Mary Williams (1785-1853). Have traced a copy of Henry's Will  at Welsh National library (Ref SD1852-133) 1852, but wrong image is attatched so I need to get a paper copy.

Henry's parents: John Perkins (1747-1835) and catherine Meyler (1752-1834). All farmers in the area at eith er Llanvern (Llanvirn/Llan-fyrn) or Pyll Cearog Farm next door.

Parents of John Perkins: John Perkins (1697-1763) and Ann Meyler (1712-1781).

Have got in touch with decendant of William Perkins (1814-1887) who has a family bible and can confirm the family links.

I am really pleased to have at last found him out! The Meyler name is also confirmation. It's been really bugging me for ages!!
