Hi again Richard. It's not allowed to put a straight Email address on these sites in case of 'robots' so the best way I can describe it to you is        marshall(then a dot)hailing(at)Hotmail(then a dot)co(then a dot)uk    or look me up on facebook. both my email addresses are on there.
sorry about having to write it this way, but its for the best practice to 'stop the bot'.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you. Say hi to your family and to granddad.
Marshall.

Re: William HAILINGS/HAYLINGS and Betty ROBERTS

Hello to anyone & everyone researching the HAILING(S)/HAYLING(S) family lines.
I have noticed that there now quite a lot of people researching this family name and drawing up the various family tree lines, but so far every one of them, including my own, has stopped at William Hailings and Betty Roberts and their marriage in 1778.
It would appear that no-one has yet managed to find their baptisms/parents/location. I confess to be frustrated at the lack of my own progress on this and have been searching other HAILING family trees for clues as to whether any one else has the information I need, but it seems not.
However, I would like to put forward a contender.....

See Gloucestershire Baptisms, Marriages and Burials (Oxenhall registers) 1538-1813
(as viewed on Ancestry.co.uk)
and you will find.....

William son of James and Elizabeth AYLINGS baptised 29 April 1758

and just a few lines below that entry you wil find.....

Betty daughter of John and Mary ROBERTS baptised 08 October 1758

That's the best fit I can find. I invite and welcome comments on these records, especially if you have any alternatives, otherwise this is the best fit for me.
Just an additional note, there are other AYLINGS in the records, maybe they are siblings?
I will attempt an attachment here. sorry, it says file too large. Email me if you want it, or you could just look it up yourself?.... hmmmm

Thanks for reading

Church of Latter Day Saints - Bosbury Parish Register in Family Search

has a marriage at Bosbury, Hereford - 23 July 1745 :

James HAYLING(S) and Susanna HUNT

and a

James HAILINGS marrying Mary MAYFIELD at Bosbury, Hereford - 2 November 1715

James HAILINGS baptism 3 May 1724 at Bosbury, Hereford - parents James & Mary
Thos. HALLINGS baptism - 9 March 1747 at Bosbury, Hereford, parents: James & Susannah (this must be the Thomas buried at Oxenhall age 7 in 1754)

--

Dustydocs re: Bosbury, Herefordshire has other records e.g.

Thomas HALLINGS christened 4 March 1687/8 - parents Thomas & Ann
and a sibling for James
William HAILINGS - christened 27 November 1726 - parents James & Mary

---

It would seem one branch of the HAILINGS/HALLINGS family came from Bosbury, Hereford to Oxenhall

---

If you look further down this message :

James AYLING was christened at Oxenhall - 1 July 1746 - parents: James & Susannah - residence, Bosbury, Hereford

---

The Forest of Dean Family History website is extremely useful especially for their Advance Search facility for births, marriage witnesses etc etc.

Witnessess are extremely useful in finding family links

www.forest-of-dean.net/

When William HAILINGS of Oxenhall married Betty ROBERTS at Oxenhall on the 12 November 1778 - the two witnesses were : John JONES and Susanna HAILINGS with the Memoranda : With consent of parents.

Using their Advance Search facility for witnesses: John JONES witnessed many marriages at Oxenhall - so was probably the Parish Clerk.

When Joshua GREEN of Pauntley - married Betty HAYLINGS at Oxenhall - 4 March 1807 - the two witness were : William HAYLINGS and Susanna SYSUM

Baptism at Oxenhall: 26 March 1804

Betty HAYLING (a Bastard) - mother Susannah

--

Susanna HAYLINGS (Spinster) of Oxenhall married William SYSAM of Oxenhall at Oxenhall - 29 July 1804 - with again John JONES the witness.

--

Oxenhall baptisms

1746 (1 July) James AYLINGS - parents: James & Susannah - residence: Bosbury, Heref
1750 (11 November) - John AYLINGS - parents James & Susannah   **
1757 (10 March) - Richard AYLINGS - parents James & Susannah

**(Richard was buried : 5 July 1757 - parents James & Susannah

1758 (29 April) - William AYLINGS - parents James & Elizabeth
1762 (6 January) - Benjamin AYLINGS - parents James & Susannah  *****

Oxenhall Burials

1749 (30 July) - Richard AYLINGS - residence: Ledbury
1754 (2 December) Thomas AYLINGS age 7

1794 (25 December) - Susanna HAYLINGS - wife of James HAYLING (Notes: Transcribed from the Register with the Bishop's Transcripts)

18 December 1810 - burial of Susanna SYSAM at Oxenhall

No burial for an Elizabeth

---

Marriage at Newent - 30 December 1781

John HAYLINGS - Bachelor of Oxenhall - married Ann DEE - Widow of Newent

witnesses: Hannah BEALE and P BEALE

---

Sometimes the Parish Clerk when he wrote up his notes at the end of the day - the incorrect names could be put down - i.e. Mother's name/name of child etc.  This has very often come up in the Forest of Dean forum.

*****

On the Forest of Dean records

Marriage at Gloucester St Mary de Lobe

A Benjamin HAILINGS  of Holy Trinity married Winifred BENNETT by banns - 25 June 1789
and
at Gloucester St Mary de Crypt

A Benjamin HAYLINGS plus a Charles HALE were witnesses 6 August 1797 to the marriage of Susannah NICHOLS and Joseph LANE

---

A couple of years later :  Benjamin and now an Elizabeth were having children christened at Saint Mary de Crypt: Benjamin, 17 March 1793, John, 8 January 1797 and William 13 April 1800

---

---

The appears to be a connection with Susannah AYLINGS and William HAYLINGS

The Forest of Dean Family History website is extremely useful for records and has the facility to use an Advanced Search - which can be used in various ways - i.e. births and marriages witnesses etc.
