Last of the 1861 - not much:

Hannah is in domestic service at Brimington Hall in Cheshire.

I'm afraid I haven't found either Thomas Jnr. or Jane.

Do you need the 1871 details for the family?

I used to visit Sellafield on a regular basis and got into the habit of stopping off at Ravenglass to nip to the loo and buy a paper. Recently at my local auction I noticed this watercolour which I thought looked like the end of the main street in Ravenglass where it literally disappears into the sea and the hills behind also seemed to fit.

The name over the door is Farren so maybe this is a painting of one of your ancestors leaning on his wall chatting to a little girl, maybe his grand-daughter?  All speculation of course.

I may be able to put you in touch with descendents of Thomas Farren. This is an old message, so you may have already connected by now. I have a sneaking suspicion this is Missing Thomas

Immigration

SS Invercargill
S.S. INVERCARGILL Passenger List
Departing Liverpool 11 July 1878, 338 passengers
FARREN Thomas 22
Farm Labourer CUL
Single Passenger

Married- Mary Eliza "Polly" Saunders 1881, see pic ( note his gives his age as 22, which he clearly wasnt??)

This couple moved to Australia, where Tom died, 20 Dec 1914. they had several children
I am connected to the Saunders wife, and have not been in touch with my contact for sometime,
She believed that Tom was born in Rayhead? Cumberland, It is thought that the "Farren" clan came from County Donnegal on the North West Coast Ireland, and that some Farren's travelled across the Irish Sea to Cumberland to mine iron ore.

It is likely that William had other children, possibly a son known as Captain Farren who settled in South Africa.

William & Jane Farren and their children moved to N.Z and settled in Oamaru.( NB: I have never been able to establish this, so they may have never come to NZ, they dont show in any records here)

Cheers
