Hoey Headstone Inscriptions
« on: Tuesday 25 March 08 21:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello Emma,

I came across these burials in Clogherhead old cemetery, which is located just north of Drogheda along the coast.
I am not sure if they are of any help. By posting on the Louth board may atract someone who may also be intrested in your Hoey's.

Regards
Noel

Thank you Noel!

That's brilliant!  They're amazing photo's!  You can even read the stones behind!  The view at the end is great.  It really gives  a good idea of the surroundings.  Thank you!

Only a true genealogist could have picked those out with the hidden clues, like being from Dublin and being known by another name!

Thank you again!

I hope you found some for yourself and had a good weekend.

All the best!

Emms

PS  Interesting: my oldest Hoey solid link is Patrick Hoey farmer, who's son John James/John Joseph saddler, came to England.  The others arem all family names.  The latest censuses etc on the Lancashire board mention Louth, too.

The ones behind are Byrne's who are often nearby, but maybe they're just local names!

One from Dublin and our Hoey's seem to have come via Dublin, too.

Thank you again!

Hi Noel. I have spent a lot of time in that graveyard looking out over Clogherhead. The Black headstone for Joe Hoey is my fathers grave. His mother was born in Clogherhead Maryann Boylan she married a Dublin man Joseph Hoey. So the Hoey name is not linked with Co Louth. My brothers and sisters all called our father Charlie but nobody else would have known him by that name. My Father loved Clogherhead and it was his wish to be buired there. Noel Keep Posting. Good luck.

P.S. Emms we have been in touch before on the Dublin board.

Hi Noel and Highway

These Irish get more complicated the more information I find!

I've finally found my old notes and I'll send bits to you both and post bits in case we find any more links.

I hadn't forgotten High way!

Keep up the good work!

More Hoey headstone inscriptions taken from an old cemetery just north of Clogherhead, passed the Church. Can someone please name this cemetery?
